Guest Blog by Tabitha ByrneWhat does User Experience (UX) mean?What does a UX designer do from day-to-day?What does designing the experience for Te Papa's visitors like?How could I get into this field?What skills I need to have?A full room of Summer of Tech candidates had a great taste of User Experience Design from UX 101 bootcamp, delivered by Kate Wanless and Karyn Brice, UX researchers and designers at Te Papa. this gave the candidates great insight into how the user experience at Te Papa are shaped by the people behind the scene.Kate and Karyn tailored this entry UX bootcamp by getting us to practise how to think like a UX person, and how to apply their top techniques to real problems that museum visitors have. They explained what UX design is all about, showed concrete examples of Te Papa's UX design and introduced tools and methods. They then took us through a typical UX design process (understand, ideate, prototype, test), shared their experience, emphasised the user-centred mindset and the importance of testing designs, and ended with some resources for further exploring UX field.Hope this eye-opening introduction and experience inspired some students to step into the exciting UX field.  Huge thanks to Kate and Karyn!
