Bootcamp Highlights: Real-World Mobile Industry Experience by Trade Me

A team from Trade Me led by Nic Tolentino, delivered this amazing and interactive bootcamp. Students were invited to learn and to experience how designers, developers, and testers at TradeMe work day to day to create awesome features which millions of Kiwis use every day. Their team of awesome professionals (many of which came through the Summer of Tech programme) guided the students through various hands-on activities. This involved creating and validating designs, planning and developing features, and testing the end product to ensure we meet the high standard everyone has come to expect of their products.By the end of this bootcamp students were expected to come out with a good understanding of what it's like to be a designer, developer, and tester, so they can be better prepared for their future career as a mobile professional. 

  • Split into three groups for workshops as designers, developers and testers. 
  • Flo (SoT Alumni) and Nic took the designer workshop through wireframe drawing of a mobile app that gives a free car valuation by just entering your car's number plate and odometer reading.
  • Bradley and Mikey (Both SoT Alumni)took the developer workshop and gave a live coding demo for us to get an idea of how the car valuation app works on their trade me website.
  • Michael and Katya took the tester workshop. 
  • Aorthi (SoT Alumni) was floating around the workshops helping out whenever needed and asking for
